Here in Quito, nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Pucara, lies Parque San José de Guamaní. It is more than just a green space. It’s a place where community thrives and memories are made.
Parque San José de Guamaní is located south of the Metropolitan District of Quito. It sits in the Turubamba parish. This area has a high population density with approximately 5000 residents.
In 2024, Parque San Fernando, which is located in Guamaní, was selected as one of 45 parks for rehabilitation. The park’s renovation covered over 10000 square meters. The work included many improvements. Construction and repairs were made to sidewalks and pathways. The ornamental lighting was improved for increased safety. Sports courts received fresh paint. Play areas for children were repaired. The ecosystem was restored through gardening and reforestation. These actions applied principles of sustainability and inclusion.
Imagine the laughter of children playing on the restored play equipment. Think about families strolling along the repaired walkways. Picture the community gathering for events in a safer brighter space.
Not long ago, the community of San José de Guamaní welcomed the ‘Municipio en tu Barrio’ initiative. This brought municipal services directly to the neighborhood. Aida Brasales, a local leader, noted that it was the first time the Municipality had come to their sector to offer advice.
The community could access services such as regularization of neighborhoods. They could also access licenses for economic activities. Information on property taxes and water meter requests was readily available. Even vaccinations and pet care services were offered.
Parque San José de Guamaní is a testament to the power of community and the importance of green spaces. It reflects the city’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents. It is a place for everyone to enjoy. Take a moment to appreciate this space.
