What secrets lie hidden within the walls of Parque Roberto? Here in the Sayago neighborhood of Montevideo, Parque Roberto stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Uruguayan football. This isn’t just any football ground. It’s the beloved home of Racing Club de Montevideo, a team forged in passion and community spirit.

The story of Parque Roberto begins in the 1930s, a time when Racing Club de Montevideo was rapidly gaining popularity. They needed a place to call their own. A place where their growing fanbase could gather and cheer them on to victory. Under the leadership of President José Silvio Piso, the club embarked on a unique fundraising campaign – the “Square Meter Campaign.” Members and supporters could buy symbolic square meters of land, collectively funding their dream stadium. This incredible display of community spirit led to the purchase of a 20,000-square-meter plot near the old Quinta de Pereyra.

Finally, on October 5, 1941, Parque Roberto officially opened its gates. Imagine the electric atmosphere as 4,000 fans witnessed Racing Club face off against Bella Vista in a thrilling match that ended in a 1-1 draw. The stadium was later christened “Osvaldo Roberto” in 1948 to honor one of the club’s founding brothers, a fitting tribute to the man who helped build Racing Club from the ground up.

Today, Parque Roberto stands as a symbol of Racing Club de Montevideo’s proud heritage. It’s a place where generations of fans have cheered, cried, and celebrated their team’s victories. As you stand here, you can almost hear the echoes of roaring crowds and feel the stadium vibrate with the energy of countless matches played. Parque Roberto isn’t just a stadium. It’s the heart and soul of Racing Club de Montevideo, a testament to the power of community, passion, and the beautiful game.
