In 1999, Monsenhor José Mazine Rodrigues took over. He served until his death. Then, on April 24, 2023, Padre Rodrigo de Oliveira Dias became the pastor. Interestingly, Padre Rodrigo is originally from this parish.
The church’s importance grew. On December 20, 2024, something special happened. Archbishop Dom Orani João Tempesta elevated the Igreja Matriz de São Benedito. It became an Archdiocesan Sanctuary. This honor recognizes the church. It also acknowledges its role as a place of pilgrimage.
