The dream of a permanent home materialized in 1956. The purchase of land on Rua Álvaro Ramos in Botafogo marked the start of a new era for the Paróquia Santa Cecília e São Pio X. In 1957 the missionaries relocated. They moved from Brás de Pina to Botafogo. A painting of Saint Cecilia from a nearby chapel was moved to their new building. It served as a temporary church.
Construction of the permanent church began on June 9 1958. The cornerstone was blessed on September 7 1958. The Centro de Assistencial Católico Italiano São Pio X a social center was also inaugurated. The church and center were officially opened on June 24 1959. This date also marked the beginning of the “Paróquia Pessoal dos Italianos” a parish specifically for Italians. Father Mario Rimondi became the first pastor. The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent figures. These included President Juscelino Kubitschek of Brazil and President Giovanni Gronchi of Italy.
By 1965 the Italian community had integrated well into other parishes. The decision was made to transform the “Paróquia Pessoal dos Italianos” into a territorial parish. This served the broader community in Botafogo. The official transition to the Paróquia Santa Cecília e São Pio X took place on April 17 1966. The name honored Saint Cecilia whose chapel stood near the new parish and São Pio X the patron saint chosen during its inception.
