Dreams realized in brick and mortar. That’s part of the story of Parkview United Church of Christ. It stands as a beacon of faith and community. Let’s step back in time and explore its journey.
In 1954, a small group of families started meeting. There were only seven or eight families. They shared a common vision and faith. This devotion laid the foundation for Parkview United Church of Christ. By October 1, 1955, they called a pastor. This marked the official beginning of their community. Initially, worship took place in members’ homes. Soon after, construction began on a parsonage. Ten acres of land were acquired for their future church building.
The parsonage was completed in late 1955. The congregation had grown to over one hundred people. They started holding services in the parsonage basement. In 1956, members dedicated themselves to church duties. They organized church school classes in different homes. The increasing membership soon outgrew the parsonage. They moved to Gall School for formal worship. A building committee formed to meet their growing needs. A Fund Drive launched for a new church building.
In 1958, their dream was realized. The new church building was dedicated. By the end of the year, membership had grown to over two hundred. The new building allowed them to expand activities. It fostered a thriving church community.
Parkview United Church of Christ continues to grow. In 2002, a meditation labyrinth was added. It helps members deepen their spiritual connection.
Believing in love and value for all, Parkview became an Open & Affirming congregation in 2013. Environmental stewardship flourished in 2016. A dedicated rain garden was added. In 2022, members supported a capital campaign. They refurbished the Fellowship Hall. New technology created community opportunities.
Today, Parkview United Church of Christ offers Sunday worship at 10:00 am. Services usually last an hour. The service includes prayer, song, scripture readings, and a sermon. They offer communion on the first Sunday of the month. Everyone is welcome at the Communion Table. There are no exceptions.
Parkview prides itself on extravagant welcome. It is a spiritual home to people from all walks of life. They come together to worship God. They build community and share stories of faith. They deepen their call to serve. Parkview seeks to inspire spiritual growth. It nurtures individuals on their lifelong journeys of faith. The church believes in acting in service to our broken world. To believe is to care. To care is to do.
Parkview United Church of Christ stands as a testament. It shows dedication, faith, and an inclusive community. It is a place where all are welcome to open their hearts. It is a place to open their minds and open their hands. It is a place to make God’s love real.
