Didn’t the Parkview Baptist Church start from humble beginnings? It all began in November 1956. A small group gathered for Sunday school. They met in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Skinner. Rev. T.J. Ellis, a member of Eastside Baptist, led the first worship service.
Parkview was officially established as a church on December 9, 1957. The educational building was ready by Easter Sunday of that year. At that time, the church had 73 members. The first service in the present sanctuary was held in November 1957. Membership had grown to 132 by then.
Parkview Baptist Church experienced steady growth. Additional space was needed. The Custer house and property at 609 Parkview Place were purchased. In 1989, a new family life center was constructed. It added classrooms and office space.
Parkview has a history of supporting missions. In 1969, the church started a new work on Old Polk City Road. That mission is now Crestview Baptist Church.
The current Parkview family appreciates the dedication of those who came before. They don’t take it for granted. They desire to continue the original vision. It started in the hearts of committed believers.
