1500 worshippers. That’s how many people attended Park Cities Presbyterian Church’s very first service. Can you imagine the energy in that room? The Park Cities Presbyterian Church didn’t start in a grand building. Its first service was held on May 26 1991 in the auditorium of Highland Park High School.

This wasn’t just any church service. It marked the birth of a new congregation a breakaway from Highland Park Presbyterian Church. A vote had failed to allow Highland Park to leave the Presbyterian Church USA. A significant number of members disagreed with the decision. They chose to form their own church one that adhered to their theological beliefs. This group led by elder Harry Hargrave among others decided to establish a new church.

The initial gathering of 1500 to 2000 people demonstrated the strength of their conviction. It showed their dedication to their faith. The community had a clear need and vision for a new church. The following Sunday after the vote the first service was held. In June 1991 Park Cities Presbyterian Church started meeting in the facilities of Highland Baptist Church. They eventually purchased the building. On June 23 1991 the congregation officially adopted its name.

The growth of Park Cities Presbyterian Church under its first senior pastor Rev Skip Ryan was remarkable. From 1500 members it expanded to between 5000 and 5500. During his fifteen years of ministry the church also helped plant 57 other churches in Dallas and worldwide. This demonstrates the church’s commitment to spreading its message of faith. It shows its impact both locally and globally. Rev Mark Alan Davis succeeded Rev Ryan as senior pastor in 2008.

But the story of Park Cities Presbyterian Church is more than just numbers. It’s about faith and community. It’s about a group of people who held firm to their beliefs. They had the courage to create something new. Their determination built a thriving congregation that continues to make a difference. The church stands as a testament to the power of shared faith. It’s a place where people found a new home a new community. The legacy of Park Cities Presbyterian Church is one of growth and service. It’s a story that continues to unfold today.
