Can you believe that a place as big as Parc Départemental Jean-Moulin – Les Guilands was once just a huge hole in the ground? Right in front of us, this bustling green oasis was once filled with gypsum! Back in the 1860s, they were digging for this mineral, which was used to build the famous Haussmannian buildings in Paris. The Parc Départemental Jean-Moulin – Les Guilands is actually made from the merger of two parks: Parc Communal des Guilands in Montreuil and the Parc Départemental Jean Moulin in Bagnolet. They were reworked and redesigned with amazing views over Paris and Montreuil. The park has been completely reimagined into a green haven where people can enjoy the outdoors, with different habitats for wildlife, sports facilities, and play areas. It’s even part of the NATURA 2000 network, which means it’s a really important place for nature! There’s a big pond, too, which attracts all sorts of birds. If you keep an eye out, you might see a Lesser Kestrel, a Common Meadowlark, or a tiny Three-banded Kinglet!
