“I move.” That’s what Agitos means in Latin. Now, let’s gather around the Paralympic Agitos Sculpture. This iconic symbol stands as a reminder of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The Paralympic Agitos Sculpture is more than just a symbol. It represents the Paralympic motto “Spirit in Motion”. The Agitos features three colours red blue and green. These colours are the most represented in national flags around the world.

The Agitos first appeared in London during the 2012 Paralympic Games. You might recall seeing them on Tower Bridge. This showed London’s commitment to both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

After the Games, the Agitos returned to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. This return marked 100 days since the north of the park opened to the public. The Paralympic Agitos Sculpture measures nearly four metres wide and three metres high.

Dennis Hone, Chief Executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, expressed delight. He was happy the Agitos would be displayed in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. He wanted visitors to pose in front of this iconic symbol.

Tim Hollingsworth, Chief Executive of the British Paralympic Association, shared his thoughts. He remembered the giant Agitos as an iconic part of the Games. He hoped the Paralympic Agitos Sculpture would remind visitors of the magic of that summer. He also wanted to encourage enthusiasm for future Paralympic Games.

Since the north of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park opened, many have visited. Over 250000 people have enjoyed the parklands. More than 700000 people attended the summer events. These events included appearances from stars like Bruce Springsteen and Jay-Z.

The Copper Box Arena also saw many visitors. Over 50000 people visited since it reopened. They tried sports like wheelchair basketball and indoor canoeing.

The Motivate East project also contributed to the Paralympic legacy. It encouraged disabled people to participate in sports. Over 1600 people tried a new sport or physical activity.

The Paralympic Agitos Sculpture stands as a permanent reminder. It reminds us of the groundbreaking Games. It symbolises courage determination inspiration and equality. As you stand here reflect on the spirit of the Paralympics. Consider the athletes who embody these values. Let the Paralympic Agitos Sculpture inspire you to move forward with spirit.
