Originally known as Papakura North School it opened in 1953. The school was on the boundary of the Papakura Military Camp. In 1958 the school became affiliated with Ardmore Teachers College. That’s when its name officially changed to Papakura Normal School.
Back then Papakura Normal School included a model country school. This “school within a school” gave student teachers a chance to teach in a small rural setting. This unique setup lasted until 2008. Since then Papakura Normal School transitioned from a small rural school. Now it is a large and popular urban school.
Today Papakura Normal School is a full primary school. It is located about 30 km south of Auckland City. The school serves students from Year 1 to Year 8 aged 5 to 12. There are approximately 700 students currently enrolled at Papakura Normal School.
The school embraces a diverse community. Students come from many cultural backgrounds. These include Māori, European, Polynesian, Asian and Indian. This mix creates a rich learning environment for everyone.

Papakura Normal School’s former principal Judy Morgan retired in May 2017. Derek Linington became the principal in May 2017. Papakura Normal School continues to provide quality education. It fosters a strong sense of community. It prepares students for future success.
