Did you notice the subtle elegance amidst the city’s hustle? That’s the Palais Gise. It stands as a testament to Munich’s rich history. Once known as Palais Arco, this city palace whispers tales of late Rococo splendor.

Let’s step back to around 1760. Picture Karl Albert von Lespilliez, Munich’s master builder, drafting the designs. It is believed he designed the Palais Gise. His creation became a landmark. Palais Gise is a protected monument.

The Palais Gise features a distinctive architectural style. The building boasts a two-story base. Above it, the main floor showcases six arched windows. A richly decorated round-arched window is flanked by pilasters. The influence of Fran\u00e7ois de Cuvilli\u00e9s is unmistakable. Lespilliez was his student.

Imagine the Palais Gise during World War II. Severe damage occurred. Today, only the facade remains original. It features many stucco elements. This facade bears witness to the past.

The Palais Gise has had several owners. Initially, it belonged to the Counts of Taufkirchen. In 1831, it passed to the Counts von Arco. Then, in 1837, Friedrich August Freiherr von Gise bought it for 33,000 Gulden. The Gise family owned it until 1906. Afterward, it was transferred to various banks and firms.

Today, the Palais Gise houses important departments. Among them are the Department of Construction and Art. Also located here is the Procurement Department of the Archdiocese of Munich-Freising.

The Palais Gise is more than just a building. It is a symbol of Munich’s resilience. Its walls echo with stories of art, architecture, and the ebb and flow of history. Take a moment to appreciate its beauty. Consider the layers of time embedded in its very stones. The Palais Gise stands as a reminder of Munich’s enduring spirit.
