Padangsambian has a rich history tied to Balinese families. Kyahi Anglurah Pemecutan III was the origin of the Ageng Pemecutan family. He had multiple wives. One hailed from Belaluan. She was a descendant of the Tangkas family. Together, they had two sons.
One son was Kiyayi Agung Anom also known as Kiyayi Agung Lanang Dawan. He lived in Jero Dawan Tegal. The other son was Kyahi Lanang Taen Siat. He resided in Jero Taen Siat.
Kiyayi Agung Lanang Dawan had four wives. One wife was a princess from Jimbaran the daughter of I mekel Jimbaran. They had a son Anak Agung Gde Jimbaran who lived in Jero Dawan Tegal. Another wife came from Tumbak Bayuh. They had two children Anak Agung Gde Padang who lived in Jero Buana Agung Padangsambian and Anak Agung Made Padang who lived in Jero Alangkajeng. A third wife was from Tegal Kawan. They also had two sons. Anak Agung Gde Banjar resided in Jero Dawan Kanginan. Anak Agung Made Banjar lived in Jero Buana Agung Padangsambian Bedauhan. His fourth wife Ni Gusti Ayu Suci was the daughter of the Raja Mengwi. They had a son Kiyayi Gde Dawan. Sadly, he passed away before adulthood.
After the sons established their own Jero or residences they received rajabrana and land. This was to ensure their well-being. It also allowed them to perform piodalan every six months. Piodalan are Balinese temple ceremonies. The piodalan at Pemerajan Jero Dawan Tegal occurs on Buda Cemeng Menail. It coincides with the piodalan at Pemerajan Jero Dawan Kanginan. The piodalan at Pemerajan Buana Agung Padangsambian is held on Soma-Tolu. The piodalan at Pemerajan Alangkajeng takes place on Anggarkasih Perangbakat. The piodalan at Pemerajan Buana Agung Bdauhan happens on Umanis Watugunung.
In 2016, Padangsambian had a population of 31,613. This consisted of 15,922 males and 15,691 females. The sex ratio was 101. The population density in 2010 was 9,640 people per square kilometer.
