Within the heart of Manila, find Paco Cemetery, a place etched in time. Paco Cemetery, more than just a resting place, is a canvas of history, a silent storyteller whispering tales of Manila’s vibrant past. Paco Cemetery was completed just before the devastating cholera epidemic of 1820. The city, in gratitude for the Dominican’s tireless service to the victims, donated nine niches within the cemetery walls. Within the mortuary chapel lies the mausoleum of Governor General Ramon Solano y Lladeral. But perhaps the most poignant tale is that of Jose Rizal, the Philippine national hero. His remains were secretly interred within Paco Cemetery from December 30, 1896, until December 29, 1912. A plaque marks the spot where he rested, a testament to his sacrifice and a reminder of the tumultuous history of the Philippines.
