Our Lady of the Crays has a history rooted in community. Irish immigrants working on the railways and at Joynson Paper Mill started a mission here in the early 19th century. They sought a place to practice their faith.
Masses were first held in St Mary Cray School in 1873. This provided a dedicated space for worship. The community grew stronger.
In 1895, the parish built its first church. Three cottages were demolished to make way for the new building next to the school. It was a symbol of permanence.
Tragedy struck during World War II. In 1941, a bombing raid destroyed the church. Despite this devastation, the community persevered. Masses were temporarily relocated. The spirit of Our Lady of the Crays remained unbroken.
Today, Our Lady of the Crays is a vibrant and diverse community. People from various cultures come together to worship. The church offers Sunday Masses at 9 AM and 11 AM. There is also a Saturday Vigil Mass at 6 PM. Weekday Masses are held throughout the week.
