The church is known for a special event. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and Corazon “Cory” Aquino got married here in 1953. Former President Ramon Magsaysay was even one of their sponsors. Imagine the excitement. The future president and her senator husband united in this very church.

Our Lady of Sorrows Church has a simple facade. A carved image of Our Lady of Sorrows sits in the center. It depicts Mary at the foot of Jesus’ cross with Saint John. Inside La Pieta stands above the tabernacle on the main altar. This Renaissance sculpture shows Mary holding Jesus after his crucifixion.

The Pauline priests and brothers started here. The Archdiocese of Manila welcomed them. They administered the Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. World War II paused everything. The Paulines rebuilt the church and other facilities. They then launched magazines like “Homelife” and “The Youngster”.

St Paul Publications and Libreria San Pablo grew from here. They spread Pauline products. The Society of St. Paul expanded. They became publishers not just printers.

Our Lady of Sorrows Parish is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a place of memories. It connects to a pivotal moment in Philippine history. It connects to Ninoy and Cory Aquino.
