Was Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church always this bustling hive of activity? It’s hard to imagine its humble beginnings back in 1953, when it was first established by the Carmelite Fathers under the guidance of Father Norbert Piper. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church wasn’t always this grand structure you see before you. The community initially gathered in an unfinished school wing! Imagine that, attending Mass surrounded by the tools of construction. It wasn’t until the gym was completed that they had a more permanent, albeit unexpected, place of worship for the next 25 years. But the spirit of the community thrived, and finally, in 1986, the current church building was completed and dedicated. Its unique architecture can accommodate over 800 worshippers, a testament to the parish’s growth and enduring faith. And if those walls could talk, they would tell you about the dedicated Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia from Nashville, who have lovingly guided the parish school since its inception a year after the church’s founding. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a testament to the enduring power of faith and community.
