The towering majestic white-tiled cross greets you. Our Lady Of La Paz Parish Church stands before you a testament to faith resilience and community spirit.
Our Lady Of La Paz Parish Church wasn’t always this grand structure. It began humbly in the 1950s. Five families formed a small community in what was then part of Barrio Palanan. As their numbers grew so did their need for a church. Makeshift altars in garages served as temporary chapels. The community’s dedication is clear in their efforts to build a permanent place of worship.
In 1954 the La Paz Civic Club and Women’s Club spearheaded the drive. They secured land. By 1967 Our Lady Of La Paz chapel was complete. It initially fell under Sts. Peter and Paul Parish. It later became a sub-parish of the Sacred Heart. The official establishment of Our Lady Of La Paz Parish as an independent entity is a significant milestone.
Archbishop Jaime L. Sin canonically erected the parish in February 1976. He officially inaugurated it on March 14 1976. Fr. Alberto Roman OSC became its first pastor. The laying of the cornerstone for the larger church happened December 12 1981. This was under the guidance of His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin. This shows the continued growth and support of the church.
The acquisition of land for the larger church involved the cooperation of Traders Royal Bank. They donated the initial lot. Further land acquisitions allowed for expansion. The St. Camillus Plaza sits on land acquired during the construction. Fr. Alberto Roman played a key role.
Our Lady Of La Paz Parish Church is under the administration of the Order of the Ministers of the Infirm (MI). They are popularly known as the Camillians. The church continues its mission. It offers a healing mass every third Sunday of the month. The church’s beauty reflects the devotion and hard work of its people. This includes the completion of the façade thanks to a “Donate a Church Tile Fund Drive”. The result is the magnificent structure you see today. Our Lady Of La Paz Parish Church continues to serve its community. It stands as a beacon of faith in the heart of Makati City.
