A humble chapel stands before you. This is Our Lady of Fatima Chapel. Its story begins not in grandeur but in a makeshift chapel on Lakas Street. In 1948 Father Gil de Legaria celebrated the first mass there. It was a humble beginning for what would become Our Lady of Fatima Parish.
The community’s faith grew. A 200 square meter lot was purchased. A chapel was built. In 1950 Archbishop Gabriel Reyes blessed the structure. Our Lady of the Mediatrix of All Graces became its patroness. Dr Gliceria Santiago Cuejillo donated the image.
The community yearned for independence. In 1958 they petitioned for a separate parish. The Archbishop appointed Father Arsenio Bautista. Various organizations flourished. The Fatima Parish Organization formed under Roberto Ramos’s leadership.
Their faith spurred them to buy a larger lot. They acquired 1293 square meters on Lubiran and Magistrado Abad Santos Streets. Architect Vicente J Lanuza designed the church. It cost 250000 pesos. This is the Our Lady of Fatima Church you see today.
The first image was a replica of the Fatima Portugal one. Congressman Rafael Aquino and his wife donated it. Later a life-size one replaced it. Architect Julio Matias donated the new image. The original remains in the new altar.
Our Lady of Fatima Parish has thrived. Eight priests have served. Each contributed to its growth. Today the Parish Pastoral Council manages it. Father Bong Lopez is the parish priest. Many organizations are active. Their dedication ensures the continued spiritual strength of Our Lady of Fatima Chapel. The chapel remains a testament to faith and community. It stands as a beacon of hope and devotion. Its story is a beautiful tapestry woven from prayer and perseverance. A story you carry with you today.
