The impressive building on the Germeringer Straße in Gauting is no ordinary school. It’s the Otto-von-Taube-Gymnasium, a place where young minds are nurtured and challenged. This school is special because it’s a natural science and technology and language high school. It was founded in 1967 after parents in Gauting fought for a local high school to prevent overflowing schools in nearby villages. However, it didn’t start in this beautiful building. The Otto-von-Taube-Gymnasium started life in the Realschule Gauting and the Volksschule Gauting and Stockdorf. Thankfully, they moved to this location in 1972, a winning spot for a high school, surrounded by nature and the bustle of the town. This modern building, designed in 1969 by Wilhelm Kücker, is proof that a high school can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. In 1972, the school was named after the local artist, Otto von Taube, commemorating his artistic achievements. A few years later, the school needed to be expanded because the student numbers rose rapidly. Between 1975 and 1976, the school added a new building designed by Lothar-Maria Keiner and Rainer Köhler. The cost of 4.6 million DM shows the importance of this project, as the community invested in its future. Today, the Otto-von-Taube-Gymnasium is a shining example of a school that fosters growth. It offers its students a diverse curriculum with two branches, both languages and natural sciences, with a focus on individualized learning, as well as programs for gifted students and the TUMKolleg. This program sets the students up with the skillset to be tomorrow’s scientists and scholars, with one-on-one mentorship with the Technical University of Munich. This gymnasium has equipped many young people in the community and beyond to be successful, giving them more than just an academic pathway; it gives them a place to discover their passions and their talents. To see the Otto-von-Taube-Gymnasium is to see the future of education.
