Have you ever been in a building that feels like a city within a city? Orkanen, the striking green-tinted structure that stands along Malmö’s inner harbor, certainly does. It’s more than just a university building; it’s a microcosm of academic life, a place where knowledge thrives and ideas clash.

When you stand in front of Orkanen, you’ll notice the bold design. It has a unique facade made of tinted glass, giving the building an ever-changing character. From certain angles, the green hue appears dark and mysterious, while from others, it seems to shimmer with a vibrant, almost electric light.

The building is home to Malmö University’s Faculty of Education and Society, as well as the university’s main library. Orkanen was built in 2005 and cost a whopping 600 million Swedish kronor.

The building consists of six separate structures connected by five courtyards, some open to the outdoors, others closed. It has five levels, spanning a massive 150 meters. These levels house lecture halls, classrooms, meeting rooms, a café, and even a gymnasium.

The building was designed with a focus on accessibility and functionality, and its large, open spaces are meant to encourage collaboration and interaction. There is a lot of thought behind it’s form and function.

Orkanen is a true symbol of modern Malmö; a place where the old and the new come together to create something truly unique. The building has received recognition for its architectural beauty, and it is a fitting home for the city’s dynamic university.
