Built in the Viceroyalty era the Oratorio stands before you. Its very stones whisper tales of devotion and community. This isn’t just a building. It’s a living testament to faith resilience and the enduring spirit of Argentina.

The Oratorio’s construction is intrinsically linked to the life of Juan de Pereda y Morante. He served as alcalde de hermandad. His wife Antonia del Pozo y Gimenez was deeply religious. It was her pious devotion that spurred the Oratorio’s creation. Antonia donated the existing structure to the Diocese of Buenos Aires in 1810. This act solidified its place within the city’s religious landscape.

Years later after Pereda y Morante remarried the couple took on the responsibility of caring for the Oratorio. The church authorities in Buenos Aires neglected their duties. The Oratorio’s upkeep became their personal project.

A pivotal figure emerged Pascual Silva Braga. A prominent citizen he voted for the removal of the viceroy in 1810. Concerned about the Oratorio’s poor condition and the large number of worshippers he rallied the neighbors. Together they organized regular religious services.

This wasn’t just about maintaining a building. It was about fostering a community. It was about providing a space for spiritual solace. Silva Braga’s dedication secured the Oratorio’s future. He successfully petitioned Governor Estanislao Lopez. The Governor declared the Oratorio and its adjoining cemetery church property. This secured the Oratorio’s place in Rosario’s history.

More than just bricks and mortar the Oratorio stands as a symbol. It represents the unwavering faith of its founders. It reflects the dedication of the community who preserved it. It embodies the historical and religious significance of a vital piece of Argentina’s past. Its story continues to resonate long after its creation.
