How quickly things change. Today, Peter Lalor Walk is a welcoming thoroughfare. It wasn’t always this way. The walk once suffered from poor lighting and a large wall that attracted graffiti. The community recognized the need for change. In 2015, thanks to community support and a $230,000 Victorian Government grant, Peter Lalor Walk underwent a significant redevelopment. This project, driven by Whittlesea City Council, aimed to revitalize the walk and enhance its safety. The transformation included new lighting, paving, street furniture, and a revamped overhead shelter. However, the highlight of the project was the addition of four mosaic murals. These murals celebrate the rich cultural history of Lalor. They depict everything from the first people of the Wurundjeri Willum Clan to the area’s diverse present. The murals stand as a testament to the community’s commitment to creating a safer and more welcoming space for all. As you walk along Peter Lalor Walk today, take a moment to appreciate these vibrant artworks. They serve as a reminder of Lalor’s past and its journey towards a brighter future.
