Ponder this: Can a church’s story begin in a humble apartment basement? Open Door Evangelistic World Ministries did just that. This non-denominational charismatic church has a rich history. It reaches the entire Twin Cities for Christ.
In 1987, Pastor Jenkins started a church in Minneapolis. God led him to a caretaker at Glenwood Apartments. She offered the basement as a place of worship. Open Door Evangelistic World Ministries began with only four adults and three children. They prayed and sought God. The ministry grew through their praise.
By 1988, the basement was too small. Open Door Evangelistic World Ministries moved to a rented space. This was at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in North Minneapolis. The church faced obstacles. Yet, they gave God glory. The doors stayed open to those seeking salvation. This inspired the name Open Door House of Prayer.
God’s grace led to a significant change in 1990. Open Door House of Prayer bought a condemned office building. It was at 615 East 28th Street in South Minneapolis. The congregation renovated it. This became a beautiful sanctuary. However, they quickly outgrew it. The old building collapsed. The congregation planned a new building for God’s glory.
During the fall of 2000, they rented space temporarily. They used Messiah Lutheran Church and Christ’s Church. The old building was demolished. Construction started for a new facility on 28th Street.
Pentecost Sunday in June 2001 marked a milestone. The first service was held in the new church. The church officially became Open Door Evangelistic World Ministries.
Archbishop Keith Terrell Jenkins leads Open Door Evangelistic World Ministries. He was born in Clarksdale Mississippi. He moved to Minneapolis at age 12. Jenkins completed high school in 1981. He married Dollica Torrance that year. She is the First Lady of the church. They have three children.
Archbishop Jenkins has a vision. He wants a multicultural church. He believes this is God’s will. Open Door Evangelistic World Ministries aims to impact the Twin Cities positively. It seeks to create a citywide family of worshippers. All are welcome. Individuals and families can grow in faith. They can discover God’s plan for their lives.
Open Door Evangelistic World Ministries is spirit-empowered. It is biblically grounded. It is a community of learning and worship. The church equips people. It teaches accuracy from the Bible. Partners become living examples. They fulfill their calling for God’s glory.
Open Door Evangelistic World Ministries holds weekly services. Christian Education is at 9:00 am on Sundays. Worship Service follows at 10:30 am. Prayer Service is on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm. Bible Study is on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm. A radio broadcast airs on Sundays at 8:30 am on KMOJ 89.9FM.
