The Open Door Church of God was founded in 1982 by the visionary Rev Willie James, a man who dreamt of building a community of faith. His vision extended beyond the traditional confines of church walls, extending its arms to embrace those in need.
Rev James had already made his mark on the city of El Paso in 1967, establishing the Youth on The Move program. This remarkable program was dedicated to empowering young people and fostering their growth. He was also instrumental in launching the first predominately black TV show in El Paso, called “Youth on The Move,” which reached the White House and even received an invitation from President Richard Nixon.
Driven by his passion for making a difference, Rev James moved to Dallas in 1975 and continued his dedicated work with the Youth on The Move program. He established a center in Dallas and created another “Youth on The Move” TV show, this time on KTXT TV Station (channel 39).
