Like a burst of pure, unadulterated color, the Olympic Mural Graffiti leaps out. This isn’t just paint. It is a statement. It’s a shout of unity across continents. Right here on Rio’s waterfront, stretching an impressive 560 feet, stands the largest mural graffiti in the world. It’s a Guinness World Record holder. The Olympic Mural Graffiti remains a vibrant legacy of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The artwork is called ‘Etnias’ or ‘Ethnicities’. The artist Eduardo Kobra originally named it ‘Todos Somos Um’ meaning ‘We Are One’. It depicts five faces. A Tajapo boy from Brazil. A Mursi woman from Ethiopia. A Kayin woman from Thailand. A Supi man from Northern Europe. Finally, a Huli man from Papua New Guinea.

These figures were carefully chosen. They represent the indigenous people. Each hails from a different continent. They embody humanity’s common ancestors. They reflect the black, blue, green, red, and gold rings of the Olympic flag.

Kobra’s intention was simple. He wanted to show that everyone is connected. He wanted to carry the core values of the Olympic Games. He wanted us to feel the intense gaze of these characters. To feel our common wisdom.

The sheer scale of the Olympic Mural Graffiti is astounding. It broke records beyond the sports arena. It became the largest street mural spray-painted by a single artist. The International Olympic Committee commissioned it. It nearly doubled the size of the previous record holder in Mazatlan, Mexico.

Imagine Kobra working tirelessly. Twelve hours a day for two months. He worked to complete ‘Etnias’ before the Olympic opening ceremony. His team used about 100 gallons of white paint. They used 400 gallons of colored paint. They also used 2,800 cans of spray paint. But, after all that effort, Kobra couldn’t even stay for the Games. He had to fly to Ohio. He had another mural to complete. This one was of Neil Armstrong.

Kobra is a global name in street art. His murals grace cities like New York, London, Tokyo, and Amsterdam. His signature style is unmistakable. Bright colors. Geometric shapes. Quilted patterns.

As you stand here, take in the details. Feel the energy radiating from the Olympic Mural Graffiti. Notice the other murals nearby. They were created by artists like André Camila Cadiz, JR, and Rita Wainer. Rio de Janeiro celebrates street art. The Olympic Mural Graffiti embodies this spirit. It’s a reminder that we are all connected. We are all one.
