A group of local makers, writers, and curators recognized a need for a dedicated space to champion craft, applied art, and design. They envisioned a gallery that fostered excellence and experimentation. For twelve years, Objectspace thrived on Ponsonby Road, building a reputation for innovative exhibitions. Then, a funding boost from Creative New Zealand propelled its expansion. Objectspace evolved into the leading organization in the Craft/Object sector. This growth led to its relocation to Rose Road. The new location boasts four exhibition spaces, a dedicated public program area, and a library. Objectspace now offers services extending beyond exhibitions. This includes research, development, and fostering relationships, both nationally and internationally. It also supports critical writing within the field. At its core, Objectspace remains driven by makers and their disciplines. It provides an environment where visitors can engage with the best of design, craft, and architecture. Objectspace also houses a shop. It sells specialist publications, limited-edition objects, and exhibition merchandise. Objectspace is more than just a display space. It’s a place where ideas spark, creativity flourishes, and the tangible expressions of New Zealand’s cultural identity are brought to life.
