Journey with me back to a pivotal moment in 1983. A young sportswriter, Jim Burt, found himself at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event. He was there to report on Dallas Cowboy legends, Coach Tom Landry and Bob Lilly. Instead of focusing on football, these men spoke of a different kind of victory, the peace found in Jesus Christ. Oates Drive Baptist Church wasn’t even a glimmer in Jim’s eye yet. This encounter, however, planted a seed that would eventually blossom into a life devoted to ministry. That night, Jim Burt wrestled with his own spiritual journey. Months later, after his girlfriend, Michelle, persistently shared the gospel and prayed for him, he made the life-altering decision to accept Christ. This transformation set him on a path that would lead him to Oates Drive Baptist Church. Fast forward to February 1999. Jim Burt, now Pastor Burt, and Michelle joined the Oates Drive family. They brought with them a shared vision: to spread the message of Christ. Their ministry at Oates Drive Baptist Church focuses on the transformative power of God’s Word.
