The cornerstone a silent promise. That’s how it began. The Nuestra Senora del Perpetuo Socorro in Buenos Aires.
In 1909 a cornerstone was laid. It was the start of something big. Not just a building but a beacon of faith. The Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Good and Perpetual Help arrived from Rome in 1901. Their dedication was unwavering. They would build a beautiful temple.
Construction took time. Years of hard work shaped the church. Then in 1912 the cornerstone for the new church was blessed. Finally on May 30 1922 something special happened. The remains of Dr Carlos Luna and his wife were moved. They were laid to rest in the church crypt. They were significant donors. They believed in the mission of the church.
The church’s consecration in 1928 was a grand event. Monsignor Santiago Luis Copello blessed the church. Monsignor Fortunato Devoto blessed the bells. They were named Trinity Francisca and Maria Julia. A special Mass followed with many dignitaries attending. The Nuncio Apostolic himself blessed the images inside. It was a day of celebration and faith.
Nuestra Senora del Perpetuo Socorro stands as a testament to perseverance. It is a place of peace. It is a community hub. The Sisters’ original dream was realized. The church remains a vibrant part of Buenos Aires. It continues to offer solace and hope. It carries on the legacy of its founders and benefactors. Its history whispers from the stones. It invites you to step inside and listen.
