Amidst the serene landscape of Florencio Varela, stands the Nuestra Señora de Schoenstatt, a beacon of faith and a testament to a remarkable journey. Nuestra Señora de Schoenstatt isn’t just a shrine; it’s a living story woven with threads of perseverance, sacrifice, and divine intervention. The very ground on which it stands holds the echoes of a tireless search, a quest for a place where the spirit of Schoenstatt could take root in Argentina. This search, led by the Sisters of Mary, spanned three arduous years and eight months, mirroring the trials faced by Father Kentenich himself. This period, marked by controversies and misunderstandings, saw Father Kentenich offering his sufferings for the successful acquisition of land for the shrine. In 1950, a promising site emerged, adorned with citrus trees and a tranquil grove. It seemed perfect, but the price tag of a million pesos presented a daunting obstacle. Undeterred, the Sisters made a pact with Our Lady, offering a million sacrifices in exchange for the necessary funds. Inflation complicated matters, but their faith remained unshaken. They adjusted their pact, asking for ten pesos for each sacrifice. Finally, the day arrived to finalize the purchase. Father Kentenich was present, but fate intervened. The landowner raised the price at the last moment, dashing their hopes. Father Kentenich, deeply involved in this quest, shared the Sisters’ disappointment. He then had to depart for Chile. There, he received joyous news: the Sisters had secured the land. The land itself, triangular in shape, was seen as a sign from heaven, affirming that this was the destined location for the Nuestra Señora de Schoenstatt, also called Shrine of the Father. Less than two months later, the foundation stone was laid. A builder providentially appeared, offering his skills. It seemed all was falling into place. Then, a devastating blow struck. News arrived from Germany: Father Kentenich had been removed from his position. This news, a heavy cross to bear, fueled the Sisters’ resolve. They poured their sacrifices, symbolized by small wax balls, into the rising walls of the shrine, each ball representing their unwavering faith. These walls, imbued with tears, sacrifices, and unwavering hope, stand as a tribute to the enduring spirit of Schoenstatt. Nuestra Señora de Schoenstatt, blessed by Father Kentenich in 1952, became the first Schoenstatt shrine in Argentina and the heart of the movement in the country. It is a place where the presence of Mary is palpable, offering solace, guidance, and a tangible connection to the divine. It is a place where the echoes of struggle and sacrifice blend harmoniously with the triumphant spirit of faith, embodying the essence of Schoenstatt’s message of hope and renewal.
