Have you ever felt the weight of history beneath your feet? Here at the Santuario Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Pompeya you stand on ground steeped in faith and devotion. This magnificent neogothic church one of the first of its kind in Argentina rises before you a testament to enduring spirituality.

Built between 1896 and 1900 its construction began with a small chapel in a marshy area nicknamed the “frog district” by Father Darío Broggi. He dedicated this humble beginning to the Virgin of the Rosary of Pompeii. On May 14 1896 the Archbishop of Buenos Aires blessed the cornerstone on land donated by the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul.

The church’s stunning architecture is the work of Augusto Cesar Ferrari. Notice the unique tall tower topped with a clock. The interior boasts breathtaking stained-glass windows imported from Zeller in Munich Germany. These windows bathe the sanctuary in a kaleidoscope of light.

In 2000 this building was officially consecrated as a sanctuary by then-Archbishop of Buenos Aires Jorge Bergoglio Pope Francis. It is now one of the most visited churches in Buenos Aires attracting thousands of worshippers.

A truly special detail lies within. The main statue of the Virgin Mary a polychrome sculpture by Miguel Castellanas dates back to 1914. It’s a breathtaking depiction of the Virgin surrounded by Saint Catherine of Siena and Saint Dominic. This statue is the focus of celebrations on May 8th and the first Sundays of October.

The Santuario Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Pompeya is more than just a church. It’s a living testament to faith. It’s a place where countless prayers have been whispered. Miracles have been claimed. It’s a place where the weight of history intertwines with living devotion. A place where hope continues to thrive. A place where you feel truly connected. Feel the history. Feel the devotion. Feel the hope.
