Did the Nova Vita Residenz im Collegium Leoninum always house Bonn’s senior citizens? No. This grand building, located on Am Alten Friedhof 13, near the Bonn Stadthaus, has a rich history. Constructed in 1897, it first served as a theological seminary, the Collegium Leoninum, for the Archdiocese of Cologne. It became too small to house all the aspiring priests, hence the new seminary. Later, with the re-establishment of the Aachen Diocese in 1930, the Collegium Leoninum became home to their priestly candidates as well. For decades, both Cologne and Aachen seminarians shared these walls. Eventually, the building even opened its doors to students of other disciplines, creating a diverse academic community of about 100 residents. In 1999, the diocese moved the seminary to the Paulushaus in Bonn’s Südstadt, a former Jesuit residence. The Nova Vita Residenz im Collegium Leoninum then took on its current role as a senior living facility, also incorporating a hotel and Leo’s Bistro, named after Pope Leo XIII. The building itself remains a protected historical landmark, showcasing its neo-gothic revival architecture. Within the Nova Vita Residenz im Collegium Leoninum, residents can enjoy a range of amenities. Comfortable, senior-friendly apartments provide spacious layouts, ample natural light, and practical features. Residents can choose from one-, two-, or three-bedroom apartments, complete with balconies, loggias, or terraces. In addition to residential living, the Nova Vita Residenz im Collegium Leoninum offers an assisted living facility known as “Gepflegt Wohnen,” prioritizing both excellent care and resident engagement. A dedicated team of caregivers and everyday companions ensures individual support and companionship. Residents have access to single apartments, approximately 30-32 sq m, each with a private bathroom and, in most cases, a balcony. The assisted living wing has a capacity for 24 residents, with two apartments designated for short-term care. The Nova Vita Residenz im Collegium Leoninum offers a glimpse into the past while embracing its present purpose.
