Miss Catherine Buchan Smith, a true pioneer in girls’ education, founded Endsleigh House, a London school for girls near Euston Station. The school thrived and even added a teacher training department. By the 1890s, it was time for a bigger space, and this plot in Northwood, with its convenient access to the Metropolitan Line, became the new home of Northwood College for Girls. Imagine this: back then, Maxwell Road was just a quiet country lane with only two houses. The main school building was erected in 1892, and that December, twenty boarders and a handful of day girls began their educational journey here. It’s incredible to think that from those humble beginnings, Northwood College for Girls has grown into the renowned institution it is today. This school has witnessed incredible changes over the years, from expanding buildings and evolving curriculums to a changing world outside its doors.
