Northolt High School is a mixed Foundation school. Its students come from diverse backgrounds. The school prides itself on its warm and positive relationships. Tolerance and respect are proactively taught here. As a result, students feel safe, happy, and enthusiastic about learning.
The school was established in 1974. It resulted from combining Vincent Secondary Modern and Eliots Green Grammar School. These schools were adjacent to each other on Eastcote Lane. Vincent Secondary Modern was established in 1953. Eliots Green Grammar School was established in 1956.
In November 2005, Northolt High School began constructing a sports hall. It cost £1.5 million. The sports hall was completed in November 2006. It opened in January 2007. The sports hall is a community facility. It offers a range of sport and leisure activities. It is managed through a partnership between Northolt High School and Active Ealing. The school also has a CLC, an astroturf pitch, and a renovated Sixth Form Centre. The Sixth Form Centre opened in 2007.
Northolt High School was featured in “The Choir”. This was a BBC documentary series during December 2006. Gareth Malone, the choir director, was at the school. He was there from November 2005 to July 2006. He then took the choir to China for the World Choir Games.
Kier was appointed to redevelop Northolt High School. This redevelopment will bring new facilities. These will benefit teachers, students, and local people. The existing school buildings will be demolished. This will make space for the new facility. It will accommodate 900 secondary places. It also has 200 sixth form places. Additionally, there are 30 ARP places for students with special educational needs.
The new school will be designed and constructed over two phases. Kier’s K-School design platform will be used. It will be net zero carbon in its operation. This aligns with the DfE’s latest output specification requirements. The buildings will be thermally efficient. They will use ground source heat pump technology. Green roofs with photovoltaic panels will also be incorporated.
New facilities will be available for community use. These include outdoor sport pitches, and a three-court multi-use games area. There is also a long jump area and an outdoor gym area. An amphitheater with a covered canopy will be available. The community can also use the cinema, activity studio, and fitness rooms.
The redevelopment is part of the Government’s School Rebuilding Programme. This scheme focuses on rebuilding and refurbishing schools and sixth forms across England.
Notable former pupils include Andrew King, a neurophysiologist. Steve Perryman, a football player, also attended. General Sir John Reith, former Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, was a pupil. Kerry Godliman, a comedian and actor, is also a former student. Katie Hillier, a fashion designer, attended Northolt High School. Rahul Kohli, an actor, is also among its alumni.
