In 1901, a modest yet determined builder named George Carter brought Northcote Methodist Church / Saint Luke’s Methodist Church to life. He completed the project for the sum of £205. Imagine the townsfolk marveling at the new church. This was their spiritual home, a place of worship and community. Northcote Methodist Church / Saint Luke’s Methodist Church quickly became the heart of Northcote. Years later, in 1922, the congregation expanded the church grounds. They built a Sunday School hall on Stafford Road. This addition bustled with children’s laughter and the teachings of the Bible. Today, the church, hall, and the two adjacent villas are owned by the Tongan Methodist Church. Every Sunday, the beautiful harmonies of the Tongan church choir fill the air, a testament to the evolving community that calls Northcote Methodist Church / Saint Luke’s Methodist Church home. The joyful sound resonates through the neighborhood. It’s a beautiful blend of old and new. The original structure, built by Carter, now serves a vibrant Tongan community, keeping the spirit of faith alive.
