The Baptist Churches of New Zealand have a rich history. It started in 1851. Decimus Dolamore arrived from England. He formed the first Baptist Church in Nelson. Dolamore helped change the law. Baptist ministers could then perform marriage ceremonies.
The Baptist Union of New Zealand formed in 1882. There were 22 churches then. They had 1890 members. The New Zealand Baptist Missionary Society formed in 1885.
Today the Baptist Churches of New Zealand are diverse. Many are influenced by the charismatic renewal movement. Some churches hold Reformed doctrines.
