Is this where the magic happens? Right here at the North Shore Assembly of God, a wave of faith and community has been sweeping across Skokie since the 1960s. It all began with a vision: Reverend Wallace Pearson felt called to establish a beacon of the Assemblies of God on Chicago’s North Shore. Imagine, in 1963, this very site transforming into a brand new church building. The first members, driven by their motto “The end of your search for a friendly church”, poured their hearts into the project. Funds came from various sources, including the Illinois District Home Missions Department and even donations from other churches. The builder himself offered his services at cost, a testament to the community spirit surrounding North Shore Assembly of God. The church wasn’t just about bricks and mortar. North Shore Assembly of God quickly gained a reputation for its dedication to missions. They even mentored other congregations, their influence extending like ripples in a pond to places like Grayslake, Lake Zurich and beyond. Over time, the church needed room to grow. They acquired the property next door, affectionately dubbed “the Annex”, to house their burgeoning youth activities and church offices. Today, North Shore Assembly of God welcomes people from all walks of life. Diverse and vibrant, it stays true to its original mission: to help people find God’s love. From Sunday services and prayer meetings to Bible study and outreach programs, there’s a place for everyone here.
