Ever tasted a beer brewed right where you’re standing? Welcome to Nørrebro Bryghus Restaurant. This isn’t just any restaurant. It’s a living piece of Copenhagen’s brewing history.

Nørrebro Bryghus Restaurant opened in 2003. It wasn’t just another bar. It was a revolution. Founded by brewmaster Anders Kissmeyer a former Carlsberg executive and businessmen Frederik Heegaard and Lars Thuesen it pioneered the craft beer movement in Denmark. Inspired by American microbreweries Kissmeyer envisioned a place that fused exceptional beer with a unique culinary experience. He even won the Carlsberg Semper Arden Prize in 2004 for his contribution to Danish beer culture. The success was immediate. Within a year over 100 microbreweries popped up across Denmark. This spot in Ryesgade an old factory building dating back to 1857 became the heart of it all.

The original brewery was small. It could satisfy the restaurant and bar’s demand. Bottled beer however proved a different story. The need was undeniable. In late 2005 a new state-of-the-art facility opened in Hedehusene. It had its own bottling line. By March 2006 Nørrebro Bryghus beers like the New York Lager Ravnsborg Rød and Bombay Pale Ale were available in bottles. Today the Hedehusene facility is the brewery’s headquarters. It handles most administrative tasks. Both locations share the same brewing traditions and recipes ensuring consistency.

The Nørrebro Bryghus Restaurant isn’t just about beer. Its food menu changes with the seasons. It’s a beautiful blend of Nordic cuisine and French culinary techniques. The dishes perfectly complement the wide range of beers. This spot has hosted countless guests. They’ve savoured extraordinary beers and unforgettable culinary experiences. The restaurant even boasts a seven-course seasonal menu which has a vegetarian option. There’s also an extensive beer menu including cocktails.

Nørrebro Bryghus has brewed more than 250 different organic beers since 2003. They even release a new organic beer every month. Many are limited editions. The regular menu features classics like the Bombay Pale Ale a robust India Pale Ale and the New York Lager a traditional American pre-prohibition style lager. There are also innovative creations. For example. There’s the Stjernestund Klosterøl a Belgian Abbey Dubbel. And The Good The Bad and The Evil a playful trilogy representing pale ale a Belgian triple and an Imperial Porter. Each brew reflects the founders’ ambition to push boundaries. They wanted to challenge perceptions of beer in Denmark. They succeeded.

Nørrebro Bryghus Restaurant is more than a place to eat and drink. It’s an experience. A testament to Danish craft beer. It’s a place where history innovation and flavour all come together. Raise a glass to Nørrebro Bryghus. It’s more than a restaurant. It’s a legacy.
