The Nordhessen Arena, formerly known as Eissporthalle Kassel, isn’t just a building. Opened in 1977 thanks to the vision of Edith and Simon Kimm, the Nordhessen Arena has witnessed countless moments of triumph, excitement, and pure joy. Imagine the roar of 6,000 trade unionists in 1981, their voices echoing within these very walls. Or picture the vibrant opening ceremony of the Bundesgartenschau, the same year, hosted here by Hans Eichel. The Nordhessen Arena has always been more than just a sports venue. It’s a place where history is made and memories are forged. The arena has undergone significant transformations throughout the years. Between 1995 and 1997, architect Peter Blaschke spearheaded an expansion that boosted its capacity. More recently, starting in 2021, extensive renovations have breathed new life into the Nordhessen Arena. A striking gold facade now gleams under the Kassel sky, a testament to the investment of Paul Sinizin, the arena’s and Kassel Huskies’ owner. Today, the Nordhessen Arena stands proudly as a multi-functional venue. The roar of the Kassel Huskies during DEL2 games still echoes within its walls, but the arena now also hosts basketball, handball, indoor soccer tournaments, and even the dazzling spectacle of Holiday on Ice. And when the sports equipment is cleared away, the vast 30×60 meter ice surface transforms into a stage for concerts, welcoming world-renowned artists.
