You wouldn’t believe the sheer number of specimens tucked away here. It’s estimated they have over 4 million specimens! The Nonvertebrate Paleontology Laboratory was founded in 1999. It’s a hub for the study of fossils, with a focus on invertebrates and fossils of ancient plants. You may think invertebrate fossils are boring, but you’d be amazed at the creatures that have left their mark on the earth. The scientists here study everything from ancient echinoderms like starfish and sea urchins, to brachiopods, those shell-bearing marine creatures that lived long ago.
