It helped them locate and monitor their kaumatuatua. The database contained details of where Ngapuhi descendants lived. It also showed their hapū affiliations. Volunteers used the database to provide support. They tracked vaccinations and underlying health conditions. Each kaumatuatua received two calls a week. The support extended beyond practical needs. Whanaungatanga connection and manaakitanga respect were paramount. It was about checking on people offering comfort and understanding. The response exemplified Ngapuhi’s strength.
