In 1836, a beacon of faith arose in Newhaven. Newhaven Church, designed by John Henderson, opened its doors to the community. The Church of Scotland congregation quickly became the heart of Newhaven. In 1899, the growing congregation expanded the church building. This expansion reflected Newhaven Church’s commitment to serving not just its members, but the entire community. Newhaven Church weathered the tumultuous storms of the 1843 Disruption. Some members left to form the Newhaven Free Church. Yet, the spirit of unity eventually prevailed. In 1974, the two congregations reunited, choosing the Craighall Road building as their shared spiritual home. In the 21st century, Newhaven Church adapted to modern needs. The main building was converted into flats in 2006. The former church hall was transformed into a modern, multi-purpose space. This space continues to host Sunday worship. It also serves as a hub for the church’s community outreach programs. Today, Newhaven Church continues its mission. It provides pastoral care, hosts events, and offers a variety of groups for all ages. The church’s commitment to serving Christ and the community remains as strong as ever.
