“To commit minds to inquiry, hearts to compassion, and lives to the service of humanity.” That’s the powerful mission of New Trier Township High School District 203. Founded in 1901, New Trier Township serves about 4,000 students. These students come from the North Shore suburban communities of Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette, Winnetka, and parts of Glenview and Northbrook.

New Trier Township is more than just a location. It is a community steeped in history and dedicated to academic and cultural excellence. The township itself was formed to bring government closer to the people. Back in 1850, one of its first official acts was to regulate cattle, horses, and hogs.

New Trier High School has a longstanding commitment to the Fine and Performing Arts. It dates back almost to the school’s opening. The school’s arts program is recognized as among the top 25 in the nation by the U.S. Department of Education.

The New Trier Memorial Garden provides a tranquil space for reflection. It was created in memory of five staff members in 1993. Their names are Ben Almaguer, Rick Sussen, Eugene Kroschel, James Borden, and Katy Walsh.

New Trier offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum. It consistently ranks among Illinois’ very top schools for academic achievement. In 2023, the mean composite ACT score was 27.1. Approximately 96 percent of the Class of 2023 enrolled in college.

The township covers approximately 16 square miles. Within its borders are the villages of Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Glencoe, and portions of Glenview and Northfield.

New Trier strives to create a small-school atmosphere within a large school. This is achieved through various programs, including the adviser program. A group of about 25 students meets daily with their faculty advisors.

New Trier Township also offers a variety of services to its residents. These include emergency assistance, access to healthcare, and employment counseling.

The New Trier Archives contain more than 100 years of New Trier High School history. Innumerable documents and memorabilia pertinent to the school’s history are stored there.

So, as you explore New Trier Township, remember its commitment to education, community, and service. It is a place where minds are nurtured and lives are shaped.
