“A church built on tried stones,” a young boy whispered, pointing at New Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church. His mother smiled, “Indeed, son, just like the verse in Isaiah.” New Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith and perseverance. It was established in Mount Clemens, Michigan. Reverend Nathaniel Calhoun Sr. founded the church on September 20, 1980. Eighty souls gathered at the home of Mrs. Jeffery Sue Coleman on 76 Michigan Street for the inaugural meeting. The name, inspired by Isaiah 28:16, resonated with the congregation. The church’s first services were held at the V.F.W. Hall on 129 South Broadway. They later moved to Martin Luther King School and then George Washington Jr. High School as the congregation grew. The journey wasn’t easy, but through prayer and hard work, New Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church found its permanent home at 23512 Joy Boulevard. This building, formerly Joy Community Church, was dedicated on December 6, 1981, with 205 people present. The church has seen several pastors guide its flock. Reverend Calhoun served from 1980-1982, followed by Clyde Williams (1983-1985), Winston A. Williams (1987), Edwin D. Brown (1988-1992), and Otis N. White (1993-2001). Since November 2001, Pastor Terence Standifer Sr. has led the congregation. New Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church continues its journey of faith.
