This came about because of racial inequality. The church has roots in the USA. Bishop Melvin L Powell and Bishop Donald E Bernard travelled to England in 1961. They planted the New Testament Assembly on British soil that year.

The New Testament Assembly started humbly. It began in the living room of Reverend Alfred Doyley and Mrs Kathrine Doyley in Balham South London. Now the New Testament Assembly is a global organization. It has churches and ministries across four continents.

The New Testament Assembly is known for vibrant worship. It also has a long history of community engagement and Christian social action. Pioneering women played an important role. Dr Iolene Smith, Bishop Esme Beswick and Rev Nezlin Sterling made innovative contributions. They helped intercultural ecumenism. They helped the New Testament Assembly hold high regards among mainstream denominations.

Bishop David W Greaves led the organization from 1999 to 2013. Bishop Delroy A Powell succeeded him. Over the years, 14 churches were planted across London and the Midlands. Some independent churches joined the fellowship. Several properties were purchased and most are now mortgage-free.

The pioneers established the New Testament Assembly through prayer sacrifice and labor. For over six decades countless lives have been transformed. People committed to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. They did so in word and deed.

The New Testament Assembly’s mission is clear. It proclaims the gospel of Jesus Christ to all. It empowers believers to impact the Kingdom of God. This happens at all levels of community and social life.

The New Testament Assembly’s vision is to become a house of prayer. This is for people of all ethnicities cultures religions and social backgrounds. They are united as one under Christ. It is to be an advocate for biblical justice. It expresses God’s heart for righteousness and truth. This is in both church and society. It will be an apostolic epicenter. Leaders are raised equipped and sent out. They go to new frontiers to fulfill Christ’s mission.

The New Testament Assembly wants healthy growing churches. They mature spiritually. They multiply through small groups. The glory of God is expressed. This is through authentic fellowship vibrant worship and anointed teaching. The power of the spirits accompanies it.

Each member is valued equipped and operating according to their gifts in the New Testament Assembly. Churches are fully resourced and financially sound.
