New Tech High @ Coppell

Nestled within the vibrant town of Coppell, Texas, New Tech High @ Coppell is more than just a school. It’s a living testament to innovation and a unique approach to education. New Tech High @ Coppell opened its doors in 2008, welcoming its first cohort of 9th and 10th graders. This marked the beginning of a new era in education for the Coppell Independent School District. The school is part of the wider New Tech Network, a national association of 86 “New Tech” schools. This network shares a common philosophy of project-based learning and collaborative education. New Tech High @ Coppell is housed in the former Lee Elementary School building. The district has ambitious plans for a new, dedicated campus near North Lake, Texas. Imagine a school where every space, indoors and out, is designed for learning. That’s New Tech High @ Coppell. It’s a completely wireless environment, with every student equipped with a laptop. This technology integration is at the heart of their project-based learning approach. In 2011, New Tech High @ Coppell celebrated its first graduating class, a milestone that solidified its place in the community. Today, the school boasts a diverse student body of around 380 students, with a dedicated staff of 33. The school is a model for innovative education, frequently attracting visits from other school districts and even politicians. They come to witness firsthand the unique learning environment and project-based curriculum. New Tech High @ Coppell faces a challenge. The Coppell Independent School District has issued a referendum, tying the school’s future to its enrollment numbers. If enrollment doesn’t increase in the next three years, the school could face closure. This would put a strain on the already full Coppell High School and the newer Ninth Grade Center. Despite this looming threat, the spirit of innovation thrives at New Tech High @ Coppell. Students engage in a wide array of clubs, from Art Club and Newspaper Club to the technically focused FIRST Tech Challenge.
