Awakening in 1985, New Salem Baptist Church began its journey with a simple sermon and a vision shared by Reverend James Meeks. Pastor Meeks, then at Beth Eden Baptist Church, rallied 205 souls, igniting the flame that would become this beacon of faith. New Salem Baptist Church initially held services at 8201 South Jeffrey Boulevard. They remained there for five years, building a foundation of community and devotion. Fast forward to 2004, and New Salem Baptist Church’s congregation had blossomed to an astounding 17,000 members. The church’s growth demanded a larger space, a testament to its profound impact. In 2005, New Salem Baptist Church unveiled its magnificent House of Hope, a testament to its expanding reach. Imagine a 10,000-seat auditorium, a space where thousands gather to worship and connect. The House of Hope boasts over 200,000 square feet of usable space, a testament to the church’s commitment to its community. After 38 years of dedicated service, Pastor Meeks retired in 2023. His legacy continues through his successor, Pastor Charlie Dates, who now leads New Salem Baptist Church into a new era.
