Did you ever hear of a museum with two homes? Here at the New National Museum of Monaco, or NMNM as it’s sometimes called, we have not one but two stunning villas showcasing contemporary visual art. The NMNM occupies both Villa Sauber and Villa Paloma. These locations offer rotating exhibitions. The museum officially began these temporary exhibitions at Villa Paloma back in 2010. Now, they showcase two new and exciting exhibitions annually at each villa. The New National Museum of Monaco has hosted a diverse range of exhibitions. They’ve shown retrospectives of artists like Erik Bulatov and Yinka Shonibare. They’ve explored the urban landscape of Monaco itself in an exhibition called “Monacopolis”. More recently, they featured intriguing exhibitions like “Artifices instables – stories of ceramics” and a photography exhibit in 2022 called “Newton, Riviera,” which paid homage to Helmut Newton. Another exhibition in 2022 celebrated the artist and designer Christian Bérard. Beyond these temporary shows, the New National Museum of Monaco boasts a fascinating permanent collection. It holds an extensive collection of works related to the painter Kees van Dongen. This really showcases the museum’s dedication to preserving and sharing important artistic legacies.
