It thrives in homes, parks, and hearts across the city. Founded in 1966, New Life Spiritual Baptist Church, sometimes known as Nueva Vida, pulses with a bilingual spirit. The church faithfully preaches the gospel, adapting its methods to connect with the community. Pastor Nelson Fonseca, who assumed leadership after Pastor David Galvan’s retirement, emphasizes the church’s core values: “Love God, love others, reach the world.” This vision fuels their commitment to both local and global missions. Thirty-four baptisms this year alone speak to their success. New Life Spiritual Baptist Church recognizes that faith often takes root outside the traditional sanctuary. Their 47 growth groups gather in homes throughout Dallas, bringing the church to “where the people are.” These groups provide a comfortable entry point for those intimidated by formal church settings. They offer tailored experiences for families, women, men, singles, children, and teens. A network of regional leaders ensures these groups remain vibrant and connected to the church’s mission. New Life Spiritual Baptist Church also nurtures spiritual growth through a structured discipleship program. New members begin with the “New Life” program, covering the gospel’s foundational truths. They then delve into Henry Blackaby’s “Experiencing God” to strengthen their spiritual disciplines. Finally, they engage with the “Growth Group Strategy,” the backbone of the church’s community engagement. This summer, New Life Spiritual Baptist Church took Vacation Bible School to the streets, hosting simultaneous sessions in parks, apartments, and homes. This innovative approach culminated in a city-wide celebration, drawing an average of 185 children daily and resulting in 34 professions of faith. Prayer is the lifeblood of New Life Spiritual Baptist Church. Their 6 a.m. prayer meeting, a tradition for over 20 years, transitioned to a virtual format during the pandemic. This change broadened participation significantly, with 35-40 people joining regularly.
