New Hope Christian Missionary Baptist Church’s ministry began in July 1969. The late Reverend Malachi G. Baker organized it. He served faithfully as pastor for over 26 years. His dedication to ministry and God’s Word left a profound legacy.

Because of Rev. Baker’s teachings New Hope Christian Missionary Baptist Church developed a warm atmosphere. Compassion is displayed. All are welcome regardless of race social class or gender. The church maintains this atmosphere through a “Small Groups” ministry. Every member is assimilated into a “Hope Group”. This is done for spiritual intimacy through prayer and Bible study.

Reverend Ernest A. Baker Sr. is the Senior Pastor of New Hope Christian Missionary Baptist Church now. He was born raised and educated in Chicago. Pastor Baker is a third-generation Baptist minister. He was licensed and ordained in 1990. Before becoming Senior Pastor he served five years as Assistant Pastor. He served under his father Rev. Malachi G. Baker. In October 1995 Pastor Baker became Senior Pastor. His father assumed the status of Pastor-Emeritus.

Pastor Ernest A. Baker Sr. is known for his genuine care for God’s people. The congregation finds him accessible and personable. He addresses their needs spiritually and otherwise. Pastor Baker is passionate about God’s Word. He delivers sermons through teaching. His style is expository and practical. He authored the “Christian Foundations Course” and Bible study workbooks.

Reflecting his heart for humanity Pastor Baker is the President and CEO of Culture of Hope Inc. It is a community-focused non-profit organization. It is a subsidiary of New Hope Christian M.B. Church. He is also a co-founding board member of Africa Resurrection & Restoration Ministries. This ministry addresses the needs of brothers and sisters in West African countries.

Pastor Baker is family-oriented. He strives to practice what he preaches regarding family. He and his wife Cheryl married on August 4 1990. They have two children Breanna Lynn and Ernest Jr. The church thanks God for Pastor Baker his family and his mother-in-law Mtr. Ann James. They all faithfully serve the ministry of New Hope Christian M.B. Church.
