Founded in 1947 by the late Reverend T C Swain New Galilee Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith and community. Initially organized in the yard of Brother and Sister Buddy Robinson the church held early services in a vacant house and a tent. This humble beginning belies the church’s remarkable growth. It moved to 2504 Tune Avenue then later to 2571 Sunbeam. New Galilee Baptist Church finally settled at its current location at 4535 Vandervoort in 1983.

Under the dedicated leadership of various pastors the church flourished. Reverend A J Anthony played a crucial role in its early years. Reverend L R Davis served faithfully for many years until his retirement in 2018. His tenure saw significant expansion including the construction of the new sanctuary and the establishment of a scholarship fund. The Leonard R and Cloteal E Davis Scholarship Foundation a testament to their commitment to education. This fund has helped countless Galilee students pursue higher education. Over 90% of Galilee’s high school graduates have earned college degrees many with advanced degrees.

New Galilee Baptist Church is more than just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant hub of community activity. Various ministries cater to diverse needs. The Youth Department boasts a mime troupe and a Girl Scout troop. A Healthy Ministry organizes health fairs and nutrition classes. A Brotherhood ministry provides mentorship for young men. The church also features a drama ministry and a nursing home ministry. The music ministry has grown significantly evolving from a simple pianist and organist setup to a full ensemble including a Minister of Music an organist a pianist a directress a drummer and a bass player.

Through the years New Galilee Baptist Church has seen changes in leadership. Reverend Damien Williams served as pastor until December 2019. Reverend Davis was named Pastor Emeritus in May 2019. Reverend Jerry Maynard was called as pastor on December 18 2020. The church continues to thrive adapting and expanding its ministries to meet the evolving needs of its community.
